LECLAIRE COURTS
2016

LeClaire Courts is a former public housing project in Chicago’s Southwest Side. As part of Northwestern Medill’s Social Justice News Nexus fellowship, GHY photographed Natalie Saffold, a former resident and public housing advocate who for years fought to return to LeClaire Courts. More than a decade ago, the Chicago Housing Authority razed the land with the promise to redevelop it into new public housing. The promise remains unfulfilled. (Natalie passed away in 2017.)
